The attack at Kamoke
Laj Wanti’s statement describes an attack on people gathered for a train journey. She was separated from family members and taken to a nearby household, while continuing to search for her missing son.
Captivity and pressure
During captivity she encountered other women who had also been taken. Her statement records attempts to persuade women that return was impossible or unsafe, shaping the choices they later expressed to officials.
Return without resolution
She was eventually among a smaller group who stated that they wished to return to India and was transported to Amritsar. Her testimony ends without resolution: close relatives had been killed and she had not been able to trace her son.
