A rushed departure and a divided land.

The partition of India in august of 1947 was a result of a rushed departure by ruling colonial powers, the British, as well as the incompatibility of the hindu and muslim leaders who desired a separate state. This triggered a long line of massacres and forced displacements - roughly around 15-18 million crossing the western border and around 2-3 million deaths as the largest migration in modern history.
